Everyone Knows its Windy

From the Director of the National Wind Technology Center in Golden, Colorado, a few fun facts on the current state of wind power capacity and tech:
  - 2004 global wind energy capacity: 47.3 Gigawatts - 2004 US wind energy capacity: 6.7 Gigawatts (mostly in CA and TX)
  - Average utility-sized wind turbine produced today: 1.2 Megawatts - Largest currently produced by US manufacturor: 1.5 Megawatts (GE Energy)
  - Estimated wind energy potential offshore of New England: 100 Gigawatts - Estimated wind energy potential in the US Great Plains: More than enough to power the US
